🔼The name Dedanim in the Bible
There are two Dedans in the Bible, both ancestors to two different tribes of Dedanites or Dedanim. The Dedan mentioned first is a son of Raamah, son of Cush, son of Ham, son of Noah (Genesis 10:7). According to Jones' Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names, this Dedan is the ancestor of the Dedanim mentioned by the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 21:13).
Then there there's Dedan a son of Jokshan (Genesis 25:3). This Dedan is the ancestor of the Letushim, the Asshurim and the Leummim. The prophet Ezekiel calls these Dedanites or perhaps the region that they occupied דדן (Dedan — Ezekiel 25:13).
