Maoch is the father of king Achish of Gath (who is also known as Maacah — 1 Kings 2:39), to whose court David flees after he ostentatiously demonstrated the failing security around king Saul (1 Samuel 27:2). David fled to king Achish, son of Maoch, together with six hundred men and his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelite and Abigail the Carmelitess, and remained under his protection in the city of Ziklag for sixteen months (1 Samuel 27:7).
